Organized by Rômulo Ehalt (Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Legal Theory), and featuring the IEF members Mário Santiago de Carvalho and João Francisco Ferreira, this event will be drawing upon the outcomes of previous mpilhlt workshops. It gathers scholars from Germany, Portugal, Brazil, Spain, the United States, France, Belgium, China, and Japan to discuss their contributions for the imminent volume dedicated to the writings of Francisco Rodrigues.
A Jesuit priest active in sixteenth-century Portuguese Goa between 1556 and 1573, Rodrigues authored numerous casuistical texts that have significantly impacted successive generations of confessors across Iberian Asia.
The presentations will be conducted online, but we invite all interested parties to join us in the meeting room on the sixth floor of the Turmcarrée building for the discussions. If you are not around Frankfurt, it will be possible to participate in the event remotely through Zoom.
